TONIGHT! August 7, if you're in the Bay Area, please do stop by this double show from my darling friend and often collaborator photographer Angela Scrivani.

[Angela Scrivani photographed by Ashton Rounds]

The Warehouse show will feature a WALL! of images from our projects together. There is a combination of backstage images from the Style Clash show at Temple May 11, 2009. This was a fashion show with Estar doing the hats and headpieces. The second series is from a photoshoot at Hotel des' Arts on May 12, 2009. In 2006, I painted Room 503 as a guest artist in the Painted Rooms series at the hotel. This was the first time I was able to go back as a clothing artist and do a photoshoot with my clothing set against my paintings.

I have the upmost thanks and respect to Angela for all the work she's done and I'm delighted to see the images printed for the first time....!

More miss velvet cream goodies.....

I've been sewing like wildfire.

Clothing and dreams are exploding from my fingertips and the needles like they just jumped out from in between the space/time alter-universe. This is great, but all of these beautiful, lonely things to wear need a home, and by that I mean a body as they're just lifeless and empty without your limbs to breathe into them. So come and visit. Maybe a trunk show, maybe just come to the studio. But come and adopt something from my hands to you. Call anytime 415 571 5641.

T H A N K Y O U !

SWAP-O-RAMA-RAMA ROCKED!

I'd like to tell you about this past weekend, May 30+ 31. I produced Swap-O-Rama-Rama at Maker Faire for the first time.

It was an amazing couple of days, and my greatest thanks goes out to all the artists and designers involved who came and volunteered their time and collectively made one of the best fashion shows we've ever had at Maker Faire!

The fashion show artists included:
a team of young designers from The Camp Couture, curated by Alexandria von Bromssen ,
miss velvet cream [with the darling models Sharona, Marianne, Layla, Maggie and Maria, Thank you!],
Tamo Design,
Seapony ,
Mock Made ,
Homey Grown, with Tiffany Chenoweth and Raquel Yasenchok,
Kittinhawk by Allysun Dutra,
Upcycling by Lucid Dawn,
and the collaborative presentation "A Follied Matrimonium" from the Oaktown crews;
Field Day Wearables,
Turnikat [ facebook: T.S. ILoveYou], &
La Sirena Sardine [ facebook: T.S. ILoveYou]!

All of the show designers also volunteered their time at Swap-O-Rama-Rama, literally "sewing for the people", working one-on-one and sharking their skills and talents for hours in the midst of hundreds of excited and loud individuals, ready to make their own personal vision for a piece of clothing, new from old, made into reality! The Swap-O-Rama-Rama crew were joined by these amazing artists;
Briget of Ghetto Goldilocks ,
Kayo &
Lara Grant

And the Swap wouldn't be complete without the live silk-screening team, Patchwerk Press , this year headed by Lukas Smithey. Thank you, each and everyone for your hours of dedicated and focused time dealing one-on-one with hundreds and hundreds of people every day.

Above all, my gratitude and thanks go to Opal Essence, who assisted me throughout the entire project. I would not have been able to do it without her ever-present hands, open heart and level head, keeping the cracks together.

I would also like to thank Kelli Peach for her production skills and the amazing volunteers she brought to the project as well; Michelle Sylvester, Ashlee Jennings and Rachel Grivas. Many thanks also to the AMMO team for their video documentation, and to photographers Stephanie Edmark, Del Geronimo and Angela Scrivani for their dedicated eye catching all the magical moments.

A special thank you for the volunteers who were the magical stitches: Karen Long, Maria Acosta, Alison, and all the Volunteers who came to work on the project from the Maker Faire hub.

Above all, I want to thank the fantastic crew I worked with from Maker Faire: Sherry, Louise, Tish!, Brigitte K, Bridgette V, Katie D, Kate R., Val, Dale, Sonia, Goli! [Thank you!], John the Electrician, Jonathan and Thank You Wendy Tremayne, who started the whole project!

Here's some pics!

Swap-O-Rama-Rama 2009 at MAKER FAIRE! May 30 + 31 in San Mateo!

[photo by angela scrivani model the darling ashton rounds]
Clean out your closets! Tell Your Friends. . .

The Maker Faire
SWAP-O-RAMA-RAMA is Here!
http://www.swaporamarama.org

May 30th and 31st 11am to 5pm
With a ReUse Fashion Show Saturday 4:45PM
@ The San Mateo Fairgrounds
Tix & Info: http://www.makerfaire.com

ADMISSION: A ticket to Maker Faire
AND any sized bag of your clean unwanted clothing.

"There is no beauty in the finest cloth if it makes hunger and unhappiness." Gandhi

Join in the communal process of reuse and celebrate our collective creativity! You are invited to Swap-O-Rama-Rama, a giant clothing swap and series of do-it-yourself workshops in which a community explores reuse and creativity through the recycling of used clothing.

It's easy to make the move from consumer to creator - and it's fun. At this Swap-O-Rama-Rama you'll find a host of talent brought together to teach you how to transform your new/used duds into works of your own. Together they bring you: DIY Stations where you can learn many wonderful ways to create out of textile reuse, Sewing Stations where local designers will teach you fresh clothing mod tricks, on site Silk-Screeners with a host of original designs and extraordinary local designers who'll show off their work in the Swap-O-Rama-Rama reuse fashion show.

The Remake/Reconstruction fashion show is Saturday 4:45pm at the Cypress Stage! And this year we'll be featuring indie designers:
Alexandria Von Bromssen and Camp Couture
miss velvet cream + Jean Therapy
Tamo Design
Seapony
Mock Made
Homey Grown
Kittinhawk
Upcycling by Lucid Dawn
Field Day Wearables x Turnikat x La Serina Sardine

Of course the core of the swap is the gigantic piles of free clothing (several thousand pounds!) sorted into categories: pants, shirts, skirts, sweaters etc. These piles are the collective total of each guest’s contribution of any size bag of unwanted clothes so clean out those closets and let go of what's no longer inspiring. Take home as much clothing as you can carry. Remainders go to a local charity.

This all takes place at the 4th Annual Maker Faire Bay Area, a family friendly fun event to MAKE, create, learn, invent, CRAFT, recycle, act up, think, play and be inspired by celebrating arts, crafts, engineering, food, music, science and technology.

Following on President Obama's call to "begin again the work of remaking America", Maker Faire 2009 will be organized around the theme of Re-Make America. Maker Faire celebrates what President Obama called "the risk takers, the doers, and the makers of things." Maker Faire will showcase individual creativity and grassroots innovation in the largest festival devoted to DIY culture and technology in the country.

Live Shows This Weekend! May 1= CYCLES : May 2= INFERNO and Open Studios MAY 3!

I am whirling and inspired by the story of Persephone. This Friday + Saturday at midnight, in two different locations, in two different ways, I will tell a double story. Skin, Bones, Flesh, Love, Death, Sacrifice, Silence, Remembering..... Through all of this the Heart Remains.

Into the darkness spiraling downwards into the heart of the Earth, past masks and illusions, past flesh and blood, bones and marrow into the core, what is left in the nothingness? From this dark silence of the void bursts forth all life. Waiting. With bated breath. Remembering. To being again from now.

THE LIVE SHOWS:

MAY 1 FRIDAY DOOR AT 9PM RUNWAY SHOWS START AT MIDNIGHT
Opel Productions and Syd Girls celebrate their 7th anniversary by presenting their annual fashion and music event "Designer Showcase" on May 1st at the Mezzanine here in San Francisco.

http://www.opelproductions.com/archives/000280.php

This show celebrates fashion in a very unique way by presenting local designers in a midnight runway and showcase their work. The theme is based on cycles that represent changing in time and as a symbol of re-birth in many cultures. With this, Opel, Syd, designers, and guests are celebrating merits, creativity, and ideas that'll be a part of the future. Inspirations come from classic styles, flirty attitude, anime costumes, modern silhouettes, lace and trims, and playful details gather up distinctive items like feathered hats and hair pieces, jewelry, vivid clothing, and costume garments come to take part of an outstanding all-nighter show.

Designers include Ella Mental, Little Red Sparrow, Kayo, Dandelions & Dean, miss velvet cream x Estar x Fluidance, Dimitri & Devora, Vindyco, and Invisible Hero Industries.
Featuring Stanton Warriors as musical guests to pump up the room with energetic hip-hop funk.

The event will run from 10pm to 4am and the runway show will promptly begin at 12am so come early, enjoy the site, meet creative and artistic people, have a couple drinks, dance your bootie off, and enjoy the show!
