Swap-O-Rama-Rama 2009 at MAKER FAIRE! May 30 + 31 in San Mateo!

[photo by angela scrivani model the darling ashton rounds]
Clean out your closets! Tell Your Friends. . .

The Maker Faire
SWAP-O-RAMA-RAMA is Here!
http://www.swaporamarama.org

May 30th and 31st 11am to 5pm
With a ReUse Fashion Show Saturday 4:45PM
@ The San Mateo Fairgrounds
Tix & Info: http://www.makerfaire.com

ADMISSION: A ticket to Maker Faire
AND any sized bag of your clean unwanted clothing.

"There is no beauty in the finest cloth if it makes hunger and unhappiness." Gandhi

Join in the communal process of reuse and celebrate our collective creativity! You are invited to Swap-O-Rama-Rama, a giant clothing swap and series of do-it-yourself workshops in which a community explores reuse and creativity through the recycling of used clothing.

It's easy to make the move from consumer to creator - and it's fun. At this Swap-O-Rama-Rama you'll find a host of talent brought together to teach you how to transform your new/used duds into works of your own. Together they bring you: DIY Stations where you can learn many wonderful ways to create out of textile reuse, Sewing Stations where local designers will teach you fresh clothing mod tricks, on site Silk-Screeners with a host of original designs and extraordinary local designers who'll show off their work in the Swap-O-Rama-Rama reuse fashion show.

The Remake/Reconstruction fashion show is Saturday 4:45pm at the Cypress Stage! And this year we'll be featuring indie designers:
Alexandria Von Bromssen and Camp Couture
miss velvet cream + Jean Therapy
Tamo Design
Seapony
Mock Made
Homey Grown
Kittinhawk
Upcycling by Lucid Dawn
Field Day Wearables x Turnikat x La Serina Sardine

Of course the core of the swap is the gigantic piles of free clothing (several thousand pounds!) sorted into categories: pants, shirts, skirts, sweaters etc. These piles are the collective total of each guest’s contribution of any size bag of unwanted clothes so clean out those closets and let go of what's no longer inspiring. Take home as much clothing as you can carry. Remainders go to a local charity.

This all takes place at the 4th Annual Maker Faire Bay Area, a family friendly fun event to MAKE, create, learn, invent, CRAFT, recycle, act up, think, play and be inspired by celebrating arts, crafts, engineering, food, music, science and technology.

Following on President Obama's call to "begin again the work of remaking America", Maker Faire 2009 will be organized around the theme of Re-Make America. Maker Faire celebrates what President Obama called "the risk takers, the doers, and the makers of things." Maker Faire will showcase individual creativity and grassroots innovation in the largest festival devoted to DIY culture and technology in the country.

Wondering what to bring to the swap? http://swaporamarama.org/swapattend.htm

Live Shows This Weekend! May 1= CYCLES : May 2= INFERNO and Open Studios MAY 3!

I am whirling and inspired by the story of Persephone. This Friday + Saturday at midnight, in two different locations, in two different ways, I will tell a double story. Skin, Bones, Flesh, Love, Death, Sacrifice, Silence, Remembering..... Through all of this the Heart Remains.

Into the darkness spiraling downwards into the heart of the Earth, past masks and illusions, past flesh and blood, bones and marrow into the core, what is left in the nothingness? From this dark silence of the void bursts forth all life. Waiting. With bated breath. Remembering. To being again from now.

THE LIVE SHOWS:

With this, Opel, Syd, designers, and guests are celebrating merits, creativity, and ideas that'll be a part of the future. Inspirations come from classic styles, flirty attitude, anime costumes, modern silhouettes, lace and trims, and playful details gather up distinctive items like feathered hats and hair pieces, jewelry, vivid clothing, and costume garments come to take part of an outstanding all-nighter show.

Last time I was here.....

AUTOBODY FINE ART : December 13 Show Press Release:

Christmas is nearly upon us which is why I am so thrilled to announce our December 13th show. Really, the show is a two-parter. During the day (between 1:00pm and 6:00pm) Autobody Fine Art will be hosting an independent designer Trunk Show and sale. All the designers are local, either San Francisco, or the EastBay. They all individually manufacture small clothing lines in ateliers they either own or share with other designers. Much of the work is "green," in focus, ie: it recycles cast-off and vintage clothing and materials in order to produce an entirely new, weareable object.

Designers and craftspeople who have already committed to the sale include:

Miss Velvet Cream: www.missvelvetcream.com
Esther Allison (hats)
Claudia Morales, Dulce Lalita: http://www.myspace.com/claudialalita
S&G Clothing Company: www.sandgclothing.com
Lucid Dawn: www.lucidawn.com
Frolick Jewelry: www.shopfrolick.com
Loosethread
Aiko Designs (Jewelry): www.aikojewelry.com
Kusumita Designs: www.kusimita.com
Ghetto Goldilocks: www.ghettogoldilocks.com

Sunny Merry: www.hoonthego.com

These artists are well known in San Francisco and the East Bay for their meticulous workmanship, stunning designs, eco-friendly materials and construction techniques. Autobody Fine Art is proud to bring this talent to Alameda ... After all, who doesn't want to look their best for the Holiday Season. We're all a little tired of our hard earned money going to big name stores, so come meet the people who imagine, design and fabricate their own collections. So, come enjoy a Christmas cocktail, some fat beats, courtesy of local DJ's and the opportunity to try own, and purchase, some of the coolest, avant-garde clothing in the East Bay. Take a look at the link pasted below to get a flavor of some of the clothes:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/kylehailey/3084418423/in/set-72157610768028118/

In conjunction with the Trunk Sale and Fashion show the evening of December 13th will also mark the opening of our Christmas show, a big group show that will include within it a selection from the traveling "Poor Man's Art Show," which has moved through galleries in the East Bay.

Come and see how this all goes down, - a marvelous mix of art, fashion, gourmet food and music.

The opening will be fully catered by Flying Monkey Catering of Marin, and there's always lots of wine. We're also sponsored by Trumer Pils, so beer will flow freely throughout the evening.

Thanks for your interest, - you can check out Autobody Fine Art at www.myspace.com/1517artprojects and if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me, Jacqueline Cooper , at autobodyfineart@yahoo.com, or call me on 510.881.6974.
